Television was once the primary source of entertainment and information, the scapegoat for a presumed decline in intelligence and initiative, and for some even a powerful tool of division. That is no longer the case. Today watching live television is increasingly rare, which makes the idea of a cut signal all the more interesting. Everyone watching would see the same thing at the same moment, without choice or control.

Now we are the ones turning off our TVs, cutting the signal on broadcasters in favour of more personalized sources of entertainment and information. In one sense this could represent a reclaiming of control, but it also raises countless new questions.
